Dry Stone Walls and Steps
Strength through flexibility
Walls
When properly built, dry stone walls are incredibly resilient. Because they aren’t rigidly fixed with mortar (devil's cream), they can shift slowly, adapting to the inevitably changing land. This flexibility allows them to last for centuries with minimal maintenance and repair.
Steps
Stone steps carry us through the landscape with grace and ease. We take our riser and tread calculations very seriously to safeguard against stumbles and are a big fan of the 6 inch riser, 15 inch tread, where possible. It's very comfy.

Pathways & Patios
Defining how we move and gather in space
Stone pathways and patios bring out that hopscotch- playing child in us, playfully providing clean solid spaces to move across the land. A dry-laid stone path can also be a lovely way to guide water patiently through the land when set on a permeable gravel base.

Other Services We Offer
Beyond Stonework
We look at your outdoor space as an opportunity to build something special that can be enjoyed for generations-- a dynamic space that feels both designed and alive. A well-landscaped yard isn’t just about plants or stone features in isolation — it’s about balance, texture, and how everything works together over time.
01
Outdoor Timber Structures
Trellises, arbours, tool sheds, decks. We utilize naturally rot-resistant wood species - such as locust, cedar, often coupling the build with stone elements.
02
Plantings
We work with some of the most skilled garden designers in town to install plants. While not dogmatic in our approach, we do encourage the use of native plants, and more-so, a plant palette that has foresight and balance.
03
Ecological Storm Water Management
We have a great deal of experience understanding water movement through the landscape. The first thing we investigate on every project is storm water flow. We have built swales, raingardens, downspout piping, and French Drains. Drystone paths are also a great way to patiently encourage water through the landscape.
04
Mortarded Stone Work
Some situations call for mortared stone work. We do have experience with wet work and will careful choose the proper mortars for the job.
05
Light/mid excavation
We have a Kubota tractor with a backhoe and a Bobcat mt-100 mini skid steerer and dumping capabilities so can perform light excavating and soil moving services.
